Prince William Shares Hilarious Struggles of Caring for His Kids’ Energetic Guinea Pigs
Prince William recently shared an endearing detail about his family’s nightly routine, disclosing that their beloved dog, Orla, often shares the bed with him and Kate Middleton. In a candid chat with Hits Radio Cornwall host Louise Harland, William offered a rare peek into his personal life, which includes this special arrangement with their loyal canine companion.
Harland recalled their exchange, saying, “[William] said that his little dog sleeps on the bed with them at night, with him and Kate.” She added that the prince was “absolutely in love” with her own dog, asking about its breed when he realized it was a Cockerjack—a unique mix of a Cocker Spaniel and a Jack Russell Terrier, which he hadn’t encountered before.
This sweet moment showcased the prince’s clear affection for animals, whether it’s his family’s own pet or meeting a new breed for the first time. Meanwhile, during a recent visit to Woodgate Valley Urban Farm, Prince William also spent time interacting with farm animals, even taking a moment to chat about the family’s other pets.
He humorously shared stories about the family’s guinea pigs, highlighting their spirited nature compared to the more relaxed animals at the farm. “These guys are pretty cool,” he said, referring to the farm’s animals. “We’ve got guinea pigs at home, and they are not like this.”
William went on to explain his role as chief caretaker for the guinea pigs, lightheartedly mentioning that he frequently cleans their cage since his children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, often forget. “I have to spend my life cleaning out the guinea pig cage because the children forget to do it,” he joked, describing the challenges of keeping the lively little pets entertained.
The prince noted how, unlike the calm animals he saw at the farm, the family’s guinea pigs require constant handling and stroking to keep them calm and happy. “The ones we’ve got at home, they’re off. You have to keep them constantly stroked and looked after,” he added. William’s open and playful anecdotes about his family’s pets offer a rare glimpse into life at home with Kate and their children.
