Montecito neighbors want Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to leave

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s Montecito neighbors are reportedly growing weary of the royal couple, expressing frustration over their reclusive lifestyle.

After moving to their $16 million mansion in 2020, following their decision to step down from royal duties, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex seem to have distanced themselves from their local community.

One anonymous resident told the Montecito Journal that they “cannot wait for her [Meghan] to go.”

The couple relocated to the U.S. with their children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3, but despite the high profile of their move, locals have not seen much of them since their arrival.

Richard Mineards, a society columnist living near the Sussexes, echoed this sentiment. Living just a “tiara’s toss” from their mansion, Mineards admitted that Harry and Meghan remain largely out of sight.

“The community is waiting for them – they’re gnashing at the bit,” he said. Mineards described the area as one where many wealthy residents contribute to cultural and charitable organisations, yet Harry and Meghan’s involvement has been notably absent.

Despite their low profile, Prince Harry is occasionally spotted on walks or bike rides, often accompanied by his security detail. However, some locals have referred to the couple as a “travelling soap opera,” frustrated by the attention they continue to attract.

One notable incident involved 88-year-old U.S. Navy veteran Frank McGinity, who attempted to deliver a welcome gift to the couple upon their arrival.

McGinity, hoping to share films about the area’s history, was turned away at their gate by a security guard, leaving him perplexed. “I was trying to be neighborly,” he said, disappointed by the cold reception.

McGinity also remarked on the couple’s surprising choice to settle in River Rock, an area known for its older demographic.

“It’s surprising they came here. People are typically older. It’s where the elephants come to die,” he commented, reflecting the bemusement of many residents at Harry and Meghan‘s decision to make Montecito their home.

Despite their high profile, it appears the couple’s presence in Montecito has not been as warmly received as they might have anticipated.
