Inside Meghan Markle’s ‘frosty’ friendship with Victoria Beckham before ‘olive branch’
David and Victoria Beckham have been plagued with rumours of a rift with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after appearing to have a very close friendship.
Speculation has been rife about snubs and an unfriendly phone call between the Royal couple and the showbiz pair, suggesting their friendship may have cooled.
The Beckhams have long been friends with Prince Harry and his older brother, Prince William. Victoria, during her Spice Girls era, met both princes on several occasions, including at the premiere of SpiceWorld The Movie.
The Beckhams were even guests at Meghan and Harry’s wedding in 2018.
However, it seems Meghan is keen to mend bridges with the former pop star turned fashion designer. During a Responsible Digital Future engagement in Colombia, Meghan chose to wear a brown silk shirt designed by Victoria.
The Beckhams reportedly remained friendly with Harry when he began dating Meghan and were keen to make her feel welcome in the UK. There were even reports that Victoria had shared her coveted list of favourite London hairdressers and stylists with Meghan.
Tom Bower, the biographer who penned a book on Meghan Markle and is currently working on one about the Beckhams, told The Sun they once offered the pair to stay at their home after mass scrutiny.
The Sussexes harboured concerns that their inner circle might be leaking stories to the press and were eager to identify the source. Meghan, in particular, suspected Victoria, prompting Harry to challenge David with the claim.
A confidant of the Beckhams told The Sun: “David and Victoria went to Meghan and Harry’s wedding and were very supportive when Meghan arrived in the UK.”
Following the tense situation, David and Victoria Beckham quickly moved on, attending the Royal wedding of Harry and Meghan at St George’s Chapel in Windsor in May 2018.
Victoria was the epitome of elegance in a chic navy dress complemented by a tasteful hat, while David cut a dapper figure in his traditional morning suit.
