Cam Norrie withdraws from the US Open with SAME injury that ruled him out of the Olympics – as British hopes are dealt an early blow in first major since Andy Murray’s retirement

Cameron Norrie has withdrawn from the US Open having announced that he has not fully recovered from the forearm injury that forced him to pull out of the men’s singles event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The British No 2 stated he planned to take some time out to ‘rest and recharge’, having now withdrawn from the Olympics.

Norrie was due to take on Netherlands’ Tallon Griekspoor in the first round, with Petros Tsitsipas – the younger brother of Stefanos Tsitsipas – taking his place.

He would later withdraw from the men’s singles event at the Canadian Open, having been due to face Marcos Giron in Montreal.

In a statement on his Instagram, the British tennis star wrote on Friday: ‘I have been working hard to get my body to full health – unfortunately my forearm injury is not recovering as soon as I would have hoped.
